Re: Argyle 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Let's hope Argyle have some luck at Cardiff today. An away win against such a strong team would really boost our spirits and be a fitting Christmas gift for the team. Even a draw would be good.

BTW, I trust everyone had a good Christmas

Yes a goal in the 84th minute, having committed 22 fouls to Cardiff's 10, 4 yellow cards to Cardiff's 1 and only one other goal attempt on target to Cardiff's 4 (courtesy Orange Sport Live) indicates Mr Mariner is teaching very aggressive play and a solid, packed defence. Who knows what the New Year (happy one everyone by the way) will bring? Only two points adrift!

Incidentally am I right in thinking Paul Mariner is Argyle's only international apart from the welsh goalie (Bill Shortt) discounting of course Gordon "Flash" Astle who only played for Engand B?

"<The transfer embargo placed on Plymouth has been lifted, according to the Championship club.

Unspecified unpaid debts led to the embargo which was imposed by the Football League late last year. But Argyle can now re-enter the transfer market.

An official statement released on the club's official website confirmed: "Plymouth Argyle have today (Thursday) received confirmation from the Football League that transfer embargo previously imposed on the club has been lifted."

No immediate further comment was expected from the club, who will now try and pursue loan objectives before Saturday's Championship clash at Queens Park Rangers.>"

The above quote taken from Yahoo Football.

If this has been the reason for some dismal performances perhaps some of you yokels can explain. In the words of one of our more colourful former politiciennes "Please explain!! (Pauline Hanson)
Happy New Year to you all with wishes for health and riches.

I suppose the game against Wednesday was really a must win. Do we now look forward to relegation or is there still hope? You guys nearer the action should be in the know.

Argyle confirm HMRC withdrawal
Thu, 04 Feb 05:02:16 2010

Buzz Up!
Plymouth have issued a statement after confirming a winding-up order issued against the club was dropped by the High Court on Wednesday morning.

The club had initially been issued with the order by HMRC, and they are now glad they can move on from the ordeal.

A statement on the club's official website read: "As expected Revenue and Customs withdrew their action. We now look forward to building on our exciting new signings and the retention of our key players to improve our league position."

The statement added: "We hope that the people of Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall will get behind (boss) Paul Mariner and his squad and come out in numbers to support Paul and the boys, starting with this weekend's enticing home match against West Bromich Albion."

Copied from Yahoo Football. Is there some explanation forthcoming from some of you experts for us expats?

We'll have to do better than this John;

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/8496768.stm

Not a disastrous result seeing as West Brom are in the top two (and we still have games in hand), but we need wins at the moment and preferably several on the trot to build our confidence.

I'm not an expert on football but from following the football league tables over the years, the rough rule of thumb I use is that teams which go down have an average of less than 1 point per game. Right now, that's us.

I don't propose to update this thread every time Argyle get a good result, but Saturday's excellent away win against the *Tykes can't be allowed to pass without comment;

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/8508484.stm

Well done lads, and good luck for tomorrow's game against Swansea.

*Yes I did look it up
