He never taught me, either, for which I`ll always be grateful.
Al Fortune is right. Nicholas was a sadistic old bastard.
I do remember him taking charge of form 2b when one of the others was ill. I think I smiled when I shouldn`t have done, and he made me stand up at my desk, holding my arms high above my head for what seemed forever. "Hurts doesn`t it," he rasped. "Yes sir," I said, through tears. "Good," he said. "It`s meant to."
Always reminded me of the bloke who played a particularly unpleasant Sheriff of Nottingham in those Robin Hood yarns on early `60s ITV. Someone told me the old sod did wartime service in the Observer Corps. Never realised he was on OUR side. I`m amazed he never fell under `friendly fire`.

Spot on, Brian. I rememebr being in the school ATC. If Nicholas had been a NCO, I am sure one of us would have been very tempted.
