School Houses 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My nephew has been at DHS for a couple of years now and when I saw him in his uniform recently I noted that his tie had a red stripe in it.
When I asked him what the stripe was for, he replied that it indicated that he used to be in Drake House (which I happen to know is the best one).
I then remembered that he had told me some time ago that the houses had changed names, although I can't remember what he said replaced the old ones.

Whilst he could obvioulsy tell me the new ones if I asked, does anyone know why they changed from the old system??

No doubt political correctness and the current trend for apologising for the long distant past. What used to be praised as dashing derring-do at sea is too often now looked upon as near piracy by the PC brigade.

John - any Ned Kelly houses in schools there in Australia?

I will have to consult my son later in the week for more and better info. In the meantime, my wife advises that, at PRIMARY school she recalls having 'Landy', 'Blamey', 'Jackson' and 'Elliott'. Fairly typical of a country so young and so fond of sporting and Anzac prowess. I am not sure that is the ideal manner of naming Houses at an English Grammar School.

If the names have indeed been changed, I believe they may have been possibly due the expansion to five or six Houses, I wonder how long it will last, bearing in mind that North, South, West and East were introduced as replacements some years ago, which move apparently did not seem to engender the same amount of loyalty toward the House Identity. I wonder why!

An old phrase (adage) comes to mind - If it ain't broke don't fix it. That, however, is not the way generational change operates!
